CHICAGO -- Moral victories don't show up in the stat sheet, but there's no doubt the Illini achieved one Saturday against South Florida. They failed to make South Florida pay for all their mistakes and penalties, which ultimately cost them the game. However, they put up a much better fight against the Bulls than they did last year (47-23 loss).

Eastern Illinois drops home opener against Indiana State

CHARLESTON -- Indiana State got the best of Eastern Illinois for the first time since 2004 in a shootout, 55-41.  Panthers quarterback Johnathan Brantley stuffed the stat sheet throwing for 443 yards and 4 touchdowns. He connected with Alex Hollins for his first three touchdowns. Eastern Illinois falls to 0-3, and will look to bounce back next Saturday at home against Tennessee State.
